Policy & Advocacy
Policy: Increasing and optimizing SBHC operations is our goal. Policy impacts the sustainability and effectivness of the centers. Additionally, expanding SBHCs in Oregon is important, too, to advance access to health care for our youth.
Advocacy: Collaborating with elected officials is one of the most effective ways to ensure SBHC stability in Oregon. Through Network advocacy, members have opportunities to develop personal relationships with local, state and federal policymakers and motivate their communities to action.
Leadership Development: The Network’s advocacy trainings educate grassroots leaders and SBHC stakeholders on how to effectively tell their personal story and share their messages with policy makers, media professionals and a variety of audiences to garner support for SBHCs.
Building Capacity
Professional Relationships: The Network fosters professional relationships between members that lead to collaboration on projects and assistance with site-specific challenges.
Project Teams and Committees: Network members collaborate to research SBHC challenges and define solutions on the local, state and national levels. Members are also active on board committees such as policy, membership and resource development.
Providing Resources and Training
School-Health Weekly: Each week the Network e-newsletter highlights training opportunities, grants and news from members and partner organizations in one accessible format. Sign up now!
Assisting New Sites: As communities express interest in establishing an SBHC, the Network, in collaboration with the State SBHC Program Office, provides guidance and resources on effective communication and community engagement, and connects new sites with consultants to assist in the planning process.
Organizational Development: Need help on communications, strategic planning or resource development? The Network’s knowledgeable staff and members provide several trainings each year to assist with effective organizational development.
Continuing Education Units: Each fall at the Annual Institute and throughout the year the Network provides members access to affordable Continuing Education Units.

Youth and Parents: Any individuals under 18 and their parents who want to advocate health care will want to be a part of this mission. Communities across Oregon have untied in creating SBHC's and must ensure these centers are sustainable. Who better than children and their families can express the very personal impact of school-based health care? Members may serve on committees, participate in leadership training and become board members of the Network.
School-Based Health Center/Systems: School-based health centers are proven to work—but only if they are available to students, and only if their doors stay open so that students can access them. The membership of all school-based health centers in Oregon is imperative. Every day, our collective work ensures the mission moves forward. Once your center has joined, all site employees are able to serve on committees and participate in training opportunities.
