Background
On or around April 8, 2013, President Obama will release a budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2014. This document becomes the measuring stick by which the House and Senate will create their own budgets. While we are hopeful that the President’s proposal will include funding for operations needs for school-based health centers, our activities will turn to the House and Senate regardless of what that document says.
What happens now
All members of Congress send appropriations requests to the Appropriations Committees. We want as many members as possible to include school-based health centers on their lists. And we want them to rank this preference highly. The best way we can make this happen is via phone calls to as many members as possible.
The members’ requests need to be received by the Appropriations Committees by April 15. Many offices will be having internal deliberations as to their requests on the week of April 8. Now is the time to contact Senators and Representatives!
